Tesla engineering chief leaving company permanently

Tesla Inc.'s top engineer, Doug Field, is leaving the company after it managed to hit delayed production targets while he was on leave, according to a Monday afternoon report. The Wall Street Journal reported that Field was leaving permanently about 20 minutes before U.S. markets closed Monday afternoon after the stock suffered an up-and-down day in the wake of Tesla announcing that it produced 5,000 Model 3 cars in a week for the first time. Tesla confirmed the move in a statement to WSJ, saying "After almost five years at Tesla, Doug Field is moving on. We'd like to thank Doug for his hard work over the years and for everything he has done for Tesla." Field, the senior vice president for engineering, had taken a leave of absence in early May. Tesla shares closed with a 2.3% decline at $335.07, while the S&P 500 index SPX, -0.49% closed with a 0.3% gain.
