On March 14, 2023, Matterport informed that it's expanding its platform integrations with Autodesk Construction Cloud, a portfolio of services and software that combines predictive insights for construction teams, advanced technology, and a builders' network.
This integration will make it easier for workgroups using Matterport and Autodesk Build to collaborate within critical project management workflows. This new union will allow stakeholders to better the request for information (RFI) process in Autodesk Build, shifting from conventional ways of communication to fully-immersive twin technology driven by Matterport.
While project management technologies can relieve the effort of collecting numerous resources, the existing approach of depending on complicated 2D and 3D files frequently leads to project mistakes or misconceptions among stakeholders, causing rework or costly delays.
According to a poll conducted by Navigant Construction Forum, the estimated construction project will generate more than 800 RFIs, with an average of more than 50 submitted per week. Each request requires approximately 8 hours of admin work to receive, review, log, and respond to the RFI1.
Besides, according to the study article Construction Disconnected by Thomas et al. (2018), inaccurate or inadequate documentation is responsible for approximately 48% of the rework that happens in the construction sector in the US.
Matterport's integration with Autodesk Build creates a visual system of record for site conditions, allowing users to generate and monitor requests directly in the digital replica of the location. Users can now place an Autodesk Build RFI pin in the exact area of concern in the photorealistic digital twin. This lets anyone with a stake in the issue view it in the same spatial context it has in the real world. This accelerates the issue resolution process to improve understanding and reduce delays.
Jay Remley, Chief Revenue Officer at Matterport, remarked, "Professionals in architecture, engineering and construction want the ability to manage their entire project portfolio from anywhere they are, without having to sacrifice quality or time to build."

James Cook, Head of Integrations, Autodesk Construction Solutions, stated, "Delays or disruptions in the RFI process can have significant ripple effects on construction schedules and budgets."
