Students Experience Construction Careers Through Virtual Reality

Employees from civil construction company, Allan Myers, visited Neil A. Armstrong Middle School at the STEM Event on Oct. 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Allan Myers employees discussed the variety of career options within construction from professional positions such as project managers, engineers and safety professionals to craft and skilled trade positions. There is an increasing demand for skilled workers in the construction field for carpenters, equipment operators and laborers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts employment of construction laborers to grow 11% from 2018 to 2028, a much faster than average growth rate. This is not only the case with construction though. Economists say there is a shortage of workers in the STEM field as a whole.
