Paperless Parts Adds Top Talent Across Engineering; Triples Team, and Still Growing

Paperless Parts Adds Top Talent Across
Paperless Parts, the leading estimating and quoting software for job shops and contract manufacturers, announces further growth to its Engineering Team with the hire of Darcy Parker, their new Director of Computational Geometry, and Michael Pfrommer, Director of Engineering. With these hires, Paperless Parts is putting significant brainpower behind its technology with the mission to solve some of the manufacturing industry’s greatest challenges.Under the VP of Engineering, Kevin Chen, and the team’s Director of Solutions Engineering, Kate Zinsky, hired in March and May 2021 respectively, the Engineering team tripled in size with more than 35% of their growth in Q4 alone, and there are no signs of slowing down hiring. 2022 is poised to have significant growth across all functions and there’s no shortage of opportunities within the company.

Darcy Parker and Michael Pfrommer bring a combined 50+ years of engineering experience to Paperless Parts, both with long stints at PTC, and are set to scale their teams with additional top talent. They’ve both worked to solve critical challenges in the product design process with CAD and PLM and will now focus on growing the value that the Paperless Parts Platform provides on the other end of the value chain where that technology interacts with manufacturers. Parker’s accomplishments include helping to build the turbine for the Fantom Vacuum Cleaner, which later became the Dyson Vacuum Cleaner. Parker’s experience has led him to become an expert at Creo Parametric (formerly Pro/ENGINEER). He has worked with many customers to help them with their modeling problems and manufacturing challenges. Parker will use his experience to take the automation to the next level through even more powerful CAD file analysis to drive enhanced manufacturability warnings and use of Product Manufacturing Information in the Paperless Parts pricing engine.

In the less than 30 days Michael Pfrommer has been Director of Engineering at Paperless Parts, he’s already added two SDET Engineers to his team, and is searching for additional experienced software engineers to join him. He will leverage his extensive experience to find innovative solutions and new approaches in support of Paperless Parts’ mission, while providing mentorship and valuable leadership across the organization.

Reflecting on his past experience, Pfrommer says, “There is a lot of synergy and overlap in terms of the technology as well as processes between design and manufacturing. Bringing digital transformation to contract manufacturing can add significant value.” He adds that he’s energized by the mission of Paperless Parts to reinvigorate US manufacturing and help these companies make a difference.

One solution that the Computational Geometry team at Paperless Parts is focused on in 2022 is making CAD data more accessible to the manufacturer. The current process of trying to get model-based definition information from the design phase into the manufacturing phase is challenging. There is rich information in the CAD model that would enable manufacturers to estimate more accurately and resolve design for manufacturability issues. Downstream suppliers have a stake in this too and want to see these problems solved.

I am excited about the way Paperless Parts is approaching the challenge of going from design to manufacturing with the free Paperless Viewer,” says Parker. “Having a platform where all parties - contract manufacturers and downstream suppliers - can communicate and work on these problems in the context of the 3D model will help people get over this hurdle.

Paperless Parts closed their Series B round of $30 million in September of 2021 and has leveraged the funds to rapidly scale the entire company.

"We saw tremendous growth of the engineering team last year, ultimately tripling in size. This is extraordinary given the tough hiring conditions we've recently seen, We are also fortunate to have brought on some seasoned engineering leaders to help grow and enable this amazing team. Solving big challenges in the industry takes multiple experts coming together, and we are building this expertise."

-Kevin Chen, VP of Engineering at Paperless Parts

In 2022, Paperless Parts will focus on creating and expanding on individualized career paths and professional development opportunities, a valuable performance and feedback program, and consistent fun team-building events. Headquartered in the West End of Boston, MA, Paperless Parts offers an energetic and welcoming office, inclusive of Chief of Tail Wags, shepherd-mix, Bella. SPX FLOW Launches Universal 2 ND Pump Series Designed Uniquely for Industrial Market

PR Newswire | January 29, 2024

SPX FLOW, has released the Universal® 2 ND Positive Displacement Pump (U2 ND) Series designed with industrial users in mind. The pumps offer the quality and durability the Waukesha Cherry-Burrell brand is known for while optimizing cost and suitability for the industrial market. The U2 ND series significantly expands the WCB pump range, aimed at enhancing reliability and performance across industrial applications while outperforming other pump styles, such as industrial lobe, gear or progressive cavity pumps. The design features improvements uniquely suited for industrial applications, including: Total cost of ownership: The pumps ensure a long running life, given their robust construction materials and designs tailored for each application. Because of its high volumetric efficiency, the pumps can be used to dose fluids, eliminating the need for an additional metering pump.  Efficiency: The U2 ND pump reduces slip, which occurs when fluids move backward from the liquid flow due to internal clearances. Lower slip means more efficiency, reducing the need for higher horsepower motors. Also, the series can process fluids over longer spans due to its high-pressure capability, which reduces the need for multiple pumps in these applications. Reliability: WCB is a proven and trusted global brand dating back to the 1880s. The pumps are made with durable, corrosive-resistant materials compatible with industrial environments. A robust design, equipped with industrial flanges or sanitary fittings, ensures manufacturers can choose the configuration to meet their needs.  Additionally, an extensive sales channel and domestic manufacturing footprint support this pump series, enabling quick deliveries on standardized parts across the entire Universal pump product line. The U2 ND series is complemented by the Universal Industrial 5000 series, which is tailored for users who require OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) seals for their industrial pumping operations. Julien Bassett, Pumps Global Product Manager: "Waukesha Cherry-Burrell has extensive experience offering pumps to customers built with their needs in mind. We wanted to expand our offerings to provide quality and durability of the SPX FLOW brand while catering to the unique needs of industrial manufacturers and their applications."
