Matterport and Autodesk Partner to Streamline Construction Site Review Process

Matterport | March 15, 2023

On March 14, 2023, Matterport informed that it's expanding its platform integrations with Autodesk Construction Cloud, a portfolio of services and software that combines predictive insights for construction teams, advanced technology, and a builders' network. This integration will make it easier for workgroups using Matterport and Autodesk Build to collaborate within critical project management workflows. This new union will allow stakeholders to better the request for information (RFI) process in Autodesk Build, shifting from conventional ways of communication to fully-immersive twin technology driven by Matterport. While project management technologies can relieve the effort of collecting numerous resources, the existing approach of depending on complicated 2D and 3D files frequently leads to project mistakes or misconceptions among stakeholders, causing rework or costly delays. According to a poll conducted by Navigant Construction Forum, the estimated construction project will generate more than 800 RFIs, with an average of more than 50 submitted per week. Each request requires approximately 8 hours of admin work to receive, review, log, and respond to the RFI1. Besides, according to the study article Construction Disconnected by Thomas et al. (2018), inaccurate or inadequate documentation is responsible for approximately 48% of the rework that happens in the construction sector in the US. Matterport's integration with Autodesk Build creates a visual system of record for site conditions, allowing users to generate and monitor requests directly in the digital replica of the location. Users can now place an Autodesk Build RFI pin in the exact area of concern in the photorealistic digital twin. This lets anyone with a stake in the issue view it in the same spatial context it has in the real world. This accelerates the issue resolution process to improve understanding and reduce delays. Jay Remley, Chief Revenue Officer at Matterport, remarked, "Professionals in architecture, engineering and construction want the ability to manage their entire project portfolio from anywhere they are, without having to sacrifice quality or time to build." (Source – Globe Newswire) James Cook, Head of Integrations, Autodesk Construction Solutions, stated, "Delays or disruptions in the RFI process can have significant ripple effects on construction schedules and budgets." (Source – Globe Newswire) About Matterport Matterport, founded in 2011, is a company that converts buildings into data to increase the value and accessibility of almost every location using a spatial data platform. It is at the forefront of the digital transformation of the built environment. The company has made immersive digital twins of millions of buildings in over 177 countries. These digital twins have helped improve all aspects of a building's lifecycle, such as planning, building, operating, documenting, appraising, and marketing.

Castillo Engineering and BioStar Renewables Partner on 15 MW Solar Project in Kansas

Prnewswire | April 27, 2023

Castillo Engineering announced today that it has partnered with BioStar Renewables, a national leader in financing, engineering, procurement, construction and asset management, to provide electrical design and engineering for a 15 MW solar project in Kansas. This behind-the-meter project utilizes a single-axis tracker and will power a recently built renewable diesel plant with on-site clean energy year-round. BioStar Renewables has engaged Castillo Engineering on three other solar projects throughout the country, making this their fourth project together. Now under construction, the project is expected to be complete in Q2 of 2023. "We chose Castillo Engineering for this project because they have proven themselves to be an exceptional partner on the variety of projects they have supported us with in several different states," said David Smart, Chief Commercial Officer of BioStar Renewables. "They are extremely detail oriented during each step of the design process, and we are excited to be able to work with them to provide more sustainable energy for this state-of-the-art renewable diesel plant." Domestic renewable diesel capacity, which can be derived from fats and oils, is expected to double by 2025, as this new plant substantially contributes to this growing trend. Given the inherent sustainable focus of the plant, it was important to the owners to power the majority of their electricity needs with solar energy and replace the facility's prior 22 MW steam generator. In order to accomplish this, Castillo Engineering efficiently overcame the project's key challenges, including directly interconnecting into a substation as well as site planning within a railroad loop, which required the firm to minimize rail crossings by optimizing conductor routes. "We are honored to have been selected by BioStar Renewables for this exceptional project, which is contributing to a more sustainable future in more ways than one," said Christopher Castillo, CEO of Castillo Engineering. "Although we have projects throughout the entire country, we are especially looking forward to providing our design, engineering and site optimization expertise for additional impactful projects in the Midwest region this year and in the years to come." About Castillo Engineering Founded in 1998, Castillo Engineering is a leading design and engineering firm that delivers expertise in full service solar and energy storage design, engineering, and consulting services to developers, EPC contractors and utility companies.
