Drones Harvest High-Altitude Wind Energy

Wind energy being harnessed to produce electricity is common knowledge. Researchers are now exploring the use of tethered kites and drones to harness the stronger and more consistent high-altitude winds. The main challenge is the intermittency of flowing wind currents, which makes this form of renewable energy unreliable. A 2012 study from California’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory found that high-altitude winds alone could provide 100 times the global energy need.
Udo Zillmann of Daidalos Capital says, wind turbines have been getting bigger and bigger in a bid to access winds at high altitude, but that means huge, expensive towers. So hi-tech drones and kites are now becoming accepted, lower-cost supplements, he argues, explaining further he says, Airborne wind energy is a minimalistic version of a turbine, incorporating only the necessary elements: a blade and a tether measuring a few centimetres in diameter, adding, these systems require between 1% and 10% of the materials used to construct a turbine and can also be grounded if required, for example to ease the passage of migrating birds.

Penspen Secures Contract with Engineering Construction Company

Penspen has been awarded a detailed engineering contract for crude receiving facilities at Jebel Dhana from Target Engineering Construction Company, an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The scope of work that will be completed by Penspen includes the development of facilities for unloading the Upper Zakhum (UZ) field and Non-System (NS) crudes at Jebel Dhana from tankers. The work will be carried out using the existing single point mooring (SPM-2), subsea pipeline, onshore pipeline and gravity pipeline to the three large tanks already in place. Both UZ and NS crudes will be blended and the crude will be transferred to Ruwais Refinery West to feed the crude oil distillation unit (CDU) with 420 000 bpd. Target Engineering Construction Company offers in-house services for major construction disciplines in onshore and offshore areas, with more than 40 years’ experience in the oil and gas sector. This contract is the second that the company has awarded to Penspen this year.

The PCA has released its Cement Consumption and Construction Activity Outlook for Spring 2021.

Portland Cement Association (PCA) Market Intelligence Group's Senior Vice President and Chief Economist Ed Sullivan as of late introduced their yearly Spring concrete utilization figure, foreseeing an increment in concrete utilization for 2021 and 2022. "Remarkably, U.S. cement consumption recorded 2% growth during 2020. It is remarkable because COVID-19 exerted a terrible toll on the economy. Consumers bunkered down; states enacted rigid lockdowns. Real GDP declined to a rate not matched since 1946 as the economy transitioned from war time to peace time," said Sullivan. "Nearly 9.5 million fewer jobs now exist compared to pre-COVID-19 levels. Many businesses did not survive the threat. And yet through all of this, cement consumption grew." Sullivan noted while significant tempests brought about a frail 2021 beginning, almost certainly, concrete utilization development will coordinate or surpass 2020's exhibition. Record low home loan rates have provoked solid additions in 2020 single family development. The low rates are required to stay set up through 2021, bringing about additional solid interest for concrete utilization. Nonresidential decays are required to proceed with this year and next, however the drag on by and large development is relied upon to reduce. Furthermore, as oil costs rise, oil well concrete will increment too.
