Are you leveraging the full value of your site technology?

Construction Dive | February 25, 2020

As technology continues to evolve, it’s important to understand the full value of adoption and how other successful site managers are utilizing today’s innovations to enhance their own value within an organization. Access your cameras from any location, on any Internet-enabled device, reducing travel costs and time driving from site to site. Gain real-time multi-site remote access and progress monitoring; avoid costly rework and delays with as-built documentation and collaboration; simplify your workflow. Let’s face it; miscommunication happens. Site cameras allow project managers, trade partners, owners and other stakeholders to communicate and collaborate with ease. Remote viewing, live video streaming, image compare and markup, automated as-built documentation and even public URL’s can be used to promote transparency and build trust. Construction sites are often the target of theft and vandalism. Complete your site intelligence solution with smart security cameras to receive critical real-time intelligence 24/7. Motion detected event notification alerts are pushed to your email or mobile device including a video clip or images of the triggering event for rapid review and response.

Digital Infrastructure Mapping Initiative Builds Momentum in California

CivilGrid | July 22, 2022

San Francisco-based startup CivilGrid is modernizing infrastructure planning with a data sharing platform unprecedented in scale and security. In the last 15 months, CivilGrid's $2.2M pre-seed fundraise propelled hiring, product development, and data acquisition initiatives, which have led to new collaborations with infrastructure owners across California. Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), a combined gas and electric utility serving more than 16 million customers across Northern and Central California, is working with CivilGrid to share gas and electric asset locations with companies planning projects across PG&E's entire service area. Underground data is critical, yet difficult to obtain in predictable formats or time frames. The US construction industry loses $30B each year due to utility line strikes, despite widespread use of locate and mark services. Project costs increase quickly when unexpected site conditions occur. Founder Josh Mackanic spent 14 years in the utility and construction industry navigating problems caused by gaps in built environment data. Recognizing an opportunity to improve safety and efficiency, he launched CivilGrid in 2020 as a reliable source of site intelligence for engineering and construction personnel. CivilGrid offers a comprehensive map interface with utility locations, site hazards, geotechnical conditions, land rights, and permit constraints. The platform also identifies project conflicts or coordination opportunities by comparing work plans across infrastructure operators. Through CivilGrid, engineers, planners and project managers accelerate site evaluation, reduce dig-in risk, and optimize multiyear project portfolio plans. CivilGrid users are planning and coordinating projects more efficiently, resulting in dramatic cost savings. One team at a telecommunications engineering services firm is reducing data acquisition and processing costs by 90% and reducing lead times from months to minutes. San Jose Water, an investor-owned public water utility serving 1 million people in the greater San Jose area, now references CivilGrid during interagency coordination meetings to improve work sequencing in the public ROW. It is immensely useful to have the GIS layers of multiple municipalities/utilities on a GIS map all at once, explains an engineer from San Jose Water. CEO and Founder Josh Mackanic adds, CivilGrid is improving how infrastructure projects are developed, and these projects are the lifeblood of our local economies. These improvements benefit an entire ecosystem of stakeholders, from project engineers to local businesses.

Japan-based construction tech company Log Build chooses Vonage to enhance customer experience

Vonage | August 20, 2022

Vonage, a global leader in cloud communications helping businesses accelerate their digital transformation, is enabling Japan-based construction tech company Log Build to seamlessly engage with its customers via high-quality live video calls that encourage collaboration on operations and services to enhance the customer experience. Log Build was founded with the aim of bringing to the world a service that enables truly necessary remote construction management. By integrating the Vonage Video API directly into the Log Build software, the company is able to connect with carpenters and other tradespeople via highly reliable, interactive live video calls, enabling them to reduce the time and expense associated with physical travel to the site. Log Build has established new forms of remote site visualization apps, such as video communication apps, that enable remote on-site inspections of construction sites (Log Meet); construction site progress and safety management apps using VR (virtual reality) software (Log Walk); and 24-hour site patrols by avatar robots (Log Kun). "I founded Log Build because even though technology has evolved, I saw from my own experience as a site manager and my position as the owner of a construction company that site management is stuck in analogue. I wanted to bring a service to the world that would realize truly necessary remote construction management." -Kenichi Nakabori, CEO of Log Build. When COVID-19 caused restrictions not only to the way the construction industry works, but also to the way people travel and communicate, we turned to Vonage to embed its Video API within our software to make it easy to connect with craftspeople and clients and enable high-quality remote site management of construction sites with innovative video solutions. Powered by the Vonage Video API, Log Build apps allow contractors and other customers to inspect construction sites remotely, from any location, on their preferred device, more smoothly, quickly and safely. The rise of remote working during and post pandemic has accelerated the adoption of artificial intelligence, augmented reality and VR solutions.
