The Dutch coins for daily use have been minted in Utrecht since 1567. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Mint in Utrecht was a state owned organizations Rijks Munt. In 1994 it was restructured and became the Nederlandse Munt N.V. with the Ministry of Finance as the sole shareholder. By Royal degree in 1999 the designation Royal​ was added.
