Converging Process Engineering Simulation Design Tools

The most significant opportunity to positively influence the design of an industrial process is in the early conceptual stages of the project, but more importantly, in managing the iterations between conceptual design, pre-FEED (front-end process engineering simulation design) and during FEED or detailed design. Engineering design projects that allow the simultaneous collaboration across engineering disciplines have the highest chance to optimize the design. Most projects use a rigid set of engineering processes and follow a standard waterfall approach to project design. The problem with this approach is – each discipline adds a certain degree of cautiousness and safety margin into the design.

‘Vision and validate’: a third way in designing the roads of the future?

Article | June 17, 2021

The Strategic Road Network (SRN) is the backbone of the road network in England. The UK’s road network is a fundamental part of our transport system; all journeys start on a road or pavement of some form. The functioning of the SRN is critical for the economy. Entire sectors depend on it, with some of the most dependent including retail, primary materials, manufacturing and construction. Thirty percent of all traffic is carried by the SRN road; inefficiencies, in the form of congestion, negatively affect productivity, the environment and quality of life.

The Hidden Savings of Engineering Value

Article | June 17, 2021

The so-called bottom line is an unavoidable, monolithic reality of the construction industry, and it is something we’ve seen happening with some of our window shade competitors. However, a formulaic race to the bottom can have dramatically negative effects on the true cost of a solar control project. General contractors starting out a project with a pre-formulated spreadsheet is a common mistake.

Five automated processes for more efficiency in precast project delivery

Article | June 17, 2021

Construction projects are currently facing numerous challenges: increasing time pressure, changes at short notice, cost efficiency, rising complexity, higher demands on architectural design and a larger number of participants characterize precast design today.

The Future of Construction from a Leader in SLAM-Based Laser Scanning

Article | June 17, 2021

Since the early days of the personal computer the construction industry has been slow to adopt digital technology. As a result, increases in construction productivity have lagged virtually every other major industry, such as automotive and aircraft manufacturing. It’s true that every construction project is different, unlike automobiles and planes, but we can do more to improve the future of construction.
