The most significant opportunity to positively influence the design of an industrial process is in the early conceptual stages of the project, but more importantly, in managing the iterations between conceptual design, pre-FEED (front-end process engineering simulation design) and during FEED or detailed design. Engineering design projects that allow the simultaneous collaboration across engineering disciplines have the highest chance to optimize the design. Most projects use a rigid set of engineering processes and follow a standard waterfall approach to project design. The problem with this approach is – each discipline adds a certain degree of cautiousness and safety margin into the design.

All you need to know about vehicle active sound design

Article | March 31, 2020

The growing electrification trend in the automotive industry is noticeably reshaping vehicle development. This new power train concept has a direct impact on other vehicle performance aspects and introduces new challenges. One of the main concerns that is even changing the legal framework on the international level is the acoustic characteristics of these vehicles. This is the moment when the rising technology called active sound design comes into play. This technology is based on generating artificial sound that is played back through the audio system to improve interior noise.

COVID-19: The Economic Impact on Construction

Article | March 16, 2020

Publicly panicking a world by stating that this is a pandemic isn’t going to solve the immediate problem the world is facing. We are already hearing China is reporting that its citizens are getting a better handle on containing the virus, which is great news from a human, public health, and economic perspective. Perhaps the biggest lesson, as I have stated in a column in Connected World, is that we need to get our own supply-chain house in order. Case in point: construction is instantly feeling the crunch.
