A Game-based Learning Approach to Information Literacy

The “digital natives” (applied to those born after 1990) constitute the first generation to have grown up with the Internet and various forms of digital technologies1. As the most networked generation ever enters higher education, smartphones, text messaging, and various social media platforms pervade their daily activities. Despite their unquestionable technological savvy, an expanding body of information literacy studies indicates that most of these students lack fundamental information literacy skills upon entering higher education2-5.

Infrastructure Policy Watch: UK government reviews road and rail development policy

The UK’s Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps MP, has announced a full review of the National Policy Statement (NPS) for national networks covering major roads and rail. NPSs outline the UK government’s strategic policy intent for infrastructure development and are used as part of the planning system to determine if a proposed project should be granted development consent. The review aims to bring the national networks NPS in line with commitments to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The secretary of state said: "The current National policy statement (NPS) on national networks, the government’s statement of strategic planning policy for major road and rail schemes, was written in 2014 – before the government’s legal commitment to net zero, the 10-point plan for a green industrial revolution, the new sixth carbon budget and most directly the new, more ambitious policies outlined in the transport decarbonisation plan."

Local construction continues with safety protocols in place

The city’s leadership hosted a Community Chat with Mayor Eric Niemann tonight through videoconferencing. Besides the mayor, City Manager Chris Workman was also on hand to answer any questions. At a point in the meeting when Niemann and Workman were taking questions, I threw out a couple of questions, including the status of local developments in town. For example, Millpond Crossing construction workers have continued to build houses - and that’s allowed under the governor’s order - but I wondered if any precautions were in place.
